Rapid growth predicted in automotive 48V mild hybrid technology

Controlled Power Technologies (CPT) witnessed more interest in 48V mild hybrid vehicles when it recently showcased its switched-reluctance (SR) motor-generator technology during three days of auto industry presentations and deep engineering discussions at the international SAE 2015 Hybrid & Electric Vehicles Technologies Symposium held in Los Angeles on 10-12 February.

Multifunction active aerodynamic system for new supercar

A multi-function active aerodynamic system has been developed by Prodrive Automotive Technology on behalf of a vehicle OEM for use in a 200mph supercar. Prodrive produced the first functional prototype system just eight months after starting the programme. The system was production-ready less than 18 months later, along with a bespoke manufacturing facility commissioned on site at Prodrive’s headquarters in Banbury.
 
Volkswagen presents future drive systems in Vienna: new engines and 10 speed DSG in development

At the 34th International Vienna Motor Symposium, Prof Dr Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, gave a forecast of future drive system technologies. Areas of work being focussed on by Volkswagen include the development of a high-performance diesel engine delivering 100kW per litre of displacement and a new 10-speed dual clutch gearbox that reduces fuel consumption. Among the alternative drive systems plug-in hybrids in particular offer great potential.
