BYOD trend prompts mobile automation website launch

23 August, 2013
A major industrial automation spares company has launched a mobile version of its website as a response to the increasingly popular BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) trend in industrial automation.

As more shop floor staff and maintenance managers begin to use mobile devices to make their jobs easier, instant access to ordering information has become essential. As a result, industrial automation spares supplier European Automation has opted for a simple, easily accessible mobile version of its website.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is the policy of permitting employees to bring personally owned mobile devices, such as laptops, tablets, and smart  phones, to their workplace. The devices are often used to access privileged company information and applications. It is increasingly common practice in engineering environments, where data on everything from SCADA to MRO is being accessed by users on their own mobile devices, often using purpose built software.

“The mobile version of the website comes as a response to the growing need for instant access, something which was really driven home in a recent survey we conducted," explained Mark Proctor, managing director of European Automation. "It also reflects the recent Bring Your Own Device trend, which highlights the vital role mobile devices are currently playing for professionals worldwide.

"We have always tried to make it as simple as possible for manufacturers to contact us and will continue to do so in the future. The mobile website is fast, easy to use and can be accessed at any time from any device with an internet connection: Smartphone, tablet or notebook,” he concluded.

The new website allows users to order automation components, which can often be delivered in less than nine hours.
