Festo is a leading international supplier of automation technology with a turnover in 2011 of over €2.1 billion. Festo employs more than 15,000 people worldwide and is a proven innovator and problem solver in the field of pneumatic and electrical automation where it has established itself as the performance leader.

Festo Industrial Automation introduces around 100 new products being launched every year. The company invests 9% of its turnover in R&D resulting in over 2,900 patents held worldwide.

Powerful stopper cylinder
23 August, 2015
Festo has launched the DFSP series of robust stopper cylinders which can withstand up to 200% more impact force than its predecessors.
Cartesian handling system configurator goes online
17 April, 2015
Festo has developed a new system for configuring ready-to-install handling systems in less than 20 minutes. The Handling Guide Online (HGO) significantly reduces design, assembly and delivery times compared with previous methods, from around two months to just three weeks for a standard handling system. The HGO is ideal for design engineers specifying systems for applications such as palletisers, end-of-line packaging, assembling and laser cutting.
Automatic regulation of of compressed air supply in new and existing installations
07 February, 2015
A smart way of helping OEMs achieve their energy efficiency and sustainability targets of machinery, the MS6-E2M module from Festo monitors and regulates the compressed air supply in new and existing systems fully automatically. As opposed to conventional service units, the MS6-E2M energy efficiency module, or E2M, actively intervenes in the air supply.
Precise position controllers for quarter turn process valve actuators
10 March, 2014
The CMSX position controller from Festo is designed for double-acting quarter turn actuators. A notable feature of this economic and reliable controller is the ability to provide a pre-definable safety position for the process valve.
More productivity with optimally cushioned pneumatic cylinders
22 February, 2014
Festo has issued a whitepaper to help engineers and designers understand the advantages and disadvantages of various cushioning technologies, so they can improve their processes.
Sanitaryware machine costs cut without sacrificing functionality or safety
10 January, 2014
In the late 19th century, potter and Englishman Thomas Twyford secured his place in history as one of the pioneers of ′sanitary science’ when he built the first modern-looking toilet; a one-piece, all china design that he would refine and promote for the good part of a decade. Almost 130 years later, technology such as Festo’s pneumatics equipment and CPX modular automation platforms are allowing developers and producers of sanitaryware pressure casting systems, PCL Ceramics, to continue to improve upon Mr Twyford’s original idea but in much less time and as cost-effectively as possible.
Position transmitter for simple stroke measuring and feedback up to 160mm
29 October, 2013
Festo has launched a new range of pneumatic cylinder position transmitters, the programmable SDAT-MHS. Economic and easy to set up, the high performance pneumatic cylinder mounted sensors give accurate position feedback over stroke lengths up to 160mm.
Rotary drive with twin pistons offers precision, stiffness and loadability
27 August, 2013
Festo has launched a cost-effective semi-rotary drive with twin pistons that offers excellent precision, stiffness and loadability. Using an innovative bearing system, the DRRD actuator can handle higher loads with exceptional accuracy. The rotary actuators are ideal for precise positioning in handling applications across a wide range of industries including food manufacturing and process and packaging.
Electric drives in industrial automation - the three key drivers
13 August, 2013
What does the future hold for electric drives in the industrial automation sector? Currently there are three trends which are dictating development – speed and ease of specification, simplified control and maintenance, and machinery safety. Here, Nigel Dawson, Festo GB’s Product Manager for Electric Drives, looks at these trends.
High speed electronic axis automates manufacture of spice jar lid
03 August, 2013
When PCE Automation was challenged with designing a new handling system for automating the manufacture of a brand new concept of spice jar lid by plastics manufacturer RPC Halstead, it turned to Festo, the leading supplier of automation equipment, for expert technology and advice.
Valves for water, air and neutral media can operate in closed media circuits
14 July, 2013
Festo has introduced the VZWF valve, a force pilot operated solenoid valve that can be used with water, air, and neutral media. This new valve utilises relatively small solenoids to control high pressures with large nominal diameters. The units can switch at pressures as low as zero bar and close automatically in the case of a pressure loss in the circuit. These valves can be applied in closed media circuits.
Pilot valve terminal can be specified with customised pin allocation
12 June, 2013
The VTOC valve terminal from Festo is particularly suitable for pilot control of process valves in the semiconductor, photovoltaic, flat-panel, biotech, pharmaceutical and process industries – and can now be specified with a customised pin allocation.
High speed belt axis delivers increased speed and load capacities
03 June, 2013
Festo has introduced a cost-effective belt drive ELGA-RF with increased speed and load capacities. The compact axis enables machine builders and engineers to increase their machine throughput and efficiencies, while benefiting from low maintenance and reduced operational costs.
High performance automation platform with more modules
10 May, 2013
Festo has launched an extension system for its high performance CPX automation platform. The innovative extension has been optimised for cabinets and will enable engineers to split CPX valve terminals into two parts, and as a result, save costs of up to 30%.
Future significance of water industry spurs appointment of business development manager for process automation
19 April, 2013
Festo has appointed Tony Gillard as New Business Development Manager, Process Automation, with a focus on the water and wastewater treatment industry. Recognising the significant role the water industry will play in the future, Festo has created this new position to support customers with the development of reliable automation solutions, enabling them to save time, money and resources, and increase efficiencies.
