High speed board-to-cable connection features glued adapter

Yamaichi Electronics Deutschland : 10 February, 2014  (New Product)
With the new HF512S high speed connector series, Yamaichi Electronics is offering FFC/FPC connectors with a 0.5mm pitch. It combines highly developed connector design with toughness and functionality, making it suited for medical technology, industry, and even in the consumer sector.
High speed board-to-cable connection features glued adapter
The HF512S is part of the Non-ZIF connector family. That primarily means quick, reliable assembly of the FFC/FPC without opening/closing a flap or drawer as conventional zero-force connectors require.
The special feature is an adapter glued to the FFC/FPC. The adapter ensures the safe handling of the FFC, because the FFC is inserted into the connector with the adapter. It makes it impossible to insert at an angle, mistake the polarity, or damage the FFC/FPC contact pad. The adapter engages audibly and perceptibly into the connector housing, locking the board side to the cable side. Pulling the FFC out is possible after pressing the adapter. That permits high extraction forces to be guaranteed, resulting in a very secure connection.
The contacts on the socket side are also designed to allow the HF512S to achieve high-speed signals of up to 5Gbps. So the new series is also part of Yamaichi Electronics' High Speed portfolio.
The 180 degree connector has currently a variety of pin versions with 40, 50, 60, and 64 pins. The contacts are gold-plated and can be soldered using the SMT reflow process. Tape & reel packaging is used.
Yamaichi Electronics also offers the cable side as a complete assembly. That means the option of choosing between a YFLEX cable for high-speed applications and an FFC for standard applications. The entire system has a working temperature range of -40 to +85C.
