Smart thyristor raises alarm in the event of critical fault condition

CD Automation UK has announced a further enhancement of its smart thyristor range. The new REVO HP continuously monitors itself, raising an alarm in the event of critical fault conditions. The new product will find a home in high power applications such as industrial heat treatment, power stations and marine work, and in the oil and gas sectors, particularly off-shore oil platforms.

The powerful control of the REVO HP minimises the damage caused by machine failure. This is achieved using the newly developed Dynamic Thyristor Diagnostic (DTD) programme, which monitors the unit and the load on it, in real-time.
 
The LED front panel displays critical fault conditions such as a lost phase, fuse or fan failure and overheating, as well as a short or open circuit and heater break, if selected. In addition to error codes, the LED front panel can also indicate any resultant alarm events, which can further trigger relay contacts to sound audible alarms.
 
It can often be difficult and costly for engineers to be called out to identify the source of a fault. As a result, the REVO HP has built in functionality to isolate and eliminate the thyristor as a source of the fault. This 'self-test routine' is activated by disconnecting the existing input wiring and linking across the input terminals to simulate 100 percent power demand.
 
The REVO HP comes in modular plug and play units, namely the 1PH, 2PH and 3PH. Made from aluminium, the casing acts like a wind tunnel, pulling and accelerating air over the heat-sink to cool the unit. 
 
Whilst simultaneously maintaining the ability to handle large industrial voltages up to 690VAC and currents up to 2400A, the construction reduces the size and weight, making the unit stackable and mountable. Flexible cable terminals also allow for easy access during this setup.
 
"Weighing up to 16kg for the most powerful unit, our space saving design eliminates the need for forklifts," said Jez Watson, managing director of CD Automation UK. "A technician can replace a faulty unit in under 20 minutes by simply removing four front panel screws and sliding the unit out."
