Instrumentation : 24 October, 2014
A powerful new mobile app packed with special features helps to convert manual portable appliance testers (PATs) into semi-automatic testers complete with test results recording capabilities. Seaward’s PATMobile app is available from the Google Play and Apple App Stores.

DC calibrator combines precision with intuitive operation
Instrumentation : 21 September, 2014
The Yokogawa 2553A is a precision DC calibrator combining precision performance and ease of use for the calibration of measuring instruments, including analogue meters, thermometers, temperature transmitters and data loggers. The new unit features high accuracy, high stability, low noise, and high resolution. Intuitive operation is aided by the provision of dials for each digit and switch and a clear display using traditional 7-segment LEDs.

Software-based, five-in-one benchtop instrumentation
Instrumentation : 16 June, 2014
National Instrument's VirtualBench offers five essential instruments in a single device with innovative software, creating new possibilities for engineers using benchtop test equipment.

Portable appliance testers have powerful auto test capability
Instrumentation : 05 February, 2014
Fluke has introduced two new portable appliance tester models, the Fluke 6200-2 and Fluke 6500-2 PAT Testers, to verify the electrical safety and operation of portable appliances in accordance with the latest relevant guidelines and regulations.

Precision power scope combines power measurement and oscilloscope
Instrumentation : 18 January, 2014
Traditional power measurement instruments cannot provide accurate time measurements; oscilloscopes are not designed to measure power. The PX8000 from Yokogawa is the first precision power scope, bringing together power measurement and oscilloscope design.

Massive MIMO Visible Light Communication Networks to Advance 5G
Instrumentation : 24 November, 2013
National Instruments and the University of Edinburgh have partnered to develop a test bed to dramatically improve indoor wireless communications capacity. Professor Harald Haas, lead researcher at Edinburgh and featured NIDays UK speaker, has pioneered a next-generation massive multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) technique, referred to as spatial modulation, to power a highly energy efficient capacity increase in another step on the path toward fifth-generation (5G) wireless communications.

Multi-channel measurement system connects to PC or company network
Instrumentation : 24 October, 2013
Spectrum has launched the DigitizerNetbox, aimed at industrial users, research and development departments, and engineers, that need a high-precision, multi-channel measurement system. The DigitizerNetbox comes with software and can be connected to a PC or company network.

Eight-channel mixed-signal oscilloscope with additional channels and enhanced firmware
Instrumentation : 20 May, 2013
A number of new enhancements have been introduced to the Yokogawa DLM4000 Series of 8-channel mixed-signal oscilloscopes. These include the L16 option, which adds 16 extra channels of logic, plus upgraded firmware for power measurements and serial-bus testing.

How to split a 4-20mA signal to multiple devices
Instrumentation : 18 March, 2013
Acromag 600T series signal splitters receive a 4-20mA current input and provide two identical isolated 4-20mA output signals. Each channel operates independently to prevent interaction between channels. Galvanic isolation eliminates ground loops, reduces noise, and blocks transient signals.

Visual infrared thermometer fills the gap between thermometers and thermal imagers
Instrumentation : 13 January, 2013
Fluke has introduced the Fluke VT02 Visual IR Thermometer, a troubleshooting tool with an infrared heat map. Until now, electricians and industrial, HVAC and automotive technicians have had to choose between single-point infrared thermometers and high-resolution thermal imagers (infrared or "IR’ cameras). The Fluke VT02 Visual IR Thermometer fills the gap for when a single-spot temperature reading is not enough and a high-resolution thermal image is more than users need. This one tool combines the visual insight of a thermal imager, the visual images of a digital camera, and the point-and-shoot convenience of an IR thermometer.

Low cost motorised positioning range targets research and industrial applications
Instrumentation : 15 December, 2012
Heason Technology has released a new range of economically priced stepper motor driven miniature positioning stages for low-cost applications in laboratory and research as well as automated alignment for production and test. The comprehensive and modular range, from Heason Technology's distribution partner GMT Global, suits medium precision use and includes linear, rotary, goniometer, and vertical elevation stages together with DSP controlled high performance microstepping drives.

Mobile computer reads the most challenging 2-D DPM codes
Instrumentation : 12 November, 2012
This industrial-grade mobile computer is for reading DPM (direct part mark) codes in applications where operators need to view the code data on an integrated handheld device, including subassembly rework, repair/maintenance, inventory management and process tracking.

PAT testing after the IET Code of Practice - keep calm and carry on?
Instrumentation : 29 October, 2012
It would be easy to see the new IET Code of Practice as bad news for those who provide PAT testing services, but it isn’t necessarily so, says Simon Wood of Megger.
