Plant-Based IT Security
Industrial Computer System Security: Three Ways to Get Started
Plant-Based IT Security : 23 August, 2015
Cyber security is a topic of high concern at the top levels for all companies. The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is connecting more devices and systems to the control network, increasing the likelihood of cyber incidents. It’s more important now than ever before to understand the principles of cyber security. Heather Mackenzie of Belden covers three ways to get started.

Industrial control system security - the big picture
Plant-Based IT Security : 20 April, 2015
Belden is prioritising investment in cyber security technology for industrial control systems (ICS) and has acquired Tripwire, an innovative company that provides advanced threat, security and compliance solutions for more than 9000 organisations, particularly those in the Fortune 500 and in government. With many customers in hyper-security-conscious industries, the company is accustomed to the high-volume and fast-paced world of today’s advanced cyber threats.

Securing legacy XP machines
Plant-Based IT Security : 15 October, 2014
Forescout has published a guide which details specific best practices for securing XP systems and describe how ForeScout CounterACT, an automated network access and security control platform, can help reduce the risk of continuing to use XP. There is also a quick video to help identify risks on the network.

Staying safe in the mobile world
Plant-Based IT Security : 10 August, 2014
In this article by Sean Newman, Security Strategist at Cisco, he talks about the increasing use of mobile devices in the work place and what this means for the security of businesses. He gives his advice about how organisations can protect themselves against the rise of mobile malware by properly monitoring the network before, during and after an attack.

Cyber security report: UK manufacturing industries fall behind expectations
Plant-Based IT Security : 22 July, 2014
Sponsored by ForeScout Technologies, the 2014 Cyber Defence Maturity Report is independent research conducted by IDG Connect during May and June of 2014. Survey respondents included 1600 IT information security decision makers in organisations of more than 500 employees, and spanning five industry sectors in the US, the UK and the German-speaking region of Europe (DACH). A key finding of the report is that more than 96% of organisations experienced a significant IT security incident in the past year. But of greatest concern to UK manufacturing is that it is below average in maturity (awareness of threats), yet likely to invest less than other sectors and other countries.

Heartbleed risk to wireless routers only negligible
Plant-Based IT Security : 21 May, 2014
Just over a month after the Heartbleed vulnerability was discovered, Tripwire has released findings into a piece of research it conducted around the effects the vulnerability has on Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) Wireless Routers. The findings of Tripwire’s research reveal that while many in the security industry believed that wireless routers will be badly affected by Heartbleed, this is in fact not the case. Many SOHO routers may be vulnerable to Heartbleed but the added risk is negligible when compared with many of the other more critical security flaws endemic to these devices.

Connectivity for security and surveillance in industrial environments
Plant-Based IT Security : 21 May, 2014
At the IFSEC International 2014 Exhibition, Harting is featuring its extensive range of connectors and connectivity systems for security and surveillance applications, including a number of new developments.

Security holes identified in SCADA product
Plant-Based IT Security : 21 March, 2014
IT security data and analytics company Rapid7 has identified and disclosed a number of vulnerabilities in the Windows-based industrial production control system CENTUM CS 3000 R3 sold by Yokogawa Electric, originally released in 1998. Over 7600 of those systems for plant operation and monitoring have been sold worldwide, including power plants, chemical and petrochemical plants in Europe, the USA and Asia.

Three-fifths of industrial control industries have not deployed security configuration management, claim
Plant-Based IT Security : 19 November, 2013
Tripwire has announced the results of research comparing risk-based security management in the industrial sector to that of other industries.

Automation company introduces comprehensive industrial cyber security initiative
Plant-Based IT Security : 13 August, 2013
Rockwell Automation has announced an initiative to help manufacturers reduce security risks to control systems in response to growing cyber-security threats. The initiative will help automation and IT professionals more effectively secure their industrial processes with a combination of control system design and best practices, contemporary technologies and professional services from Rockwell Automation and its strategic partnerships, including Cisco.
